David Maawad

About David

David Maawad was born on April 18, 1951 in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca.

In more than 20 years of photographic work he has captured images of specific social groups such as miners, peasants and indigenous people.

Since 1980, Maawad has been working on the project "A Graphic History of Mining in Mexico", which has led to numerous awards.

In 1977, he worked on the installation of the Casasola Archive which is now the Photography Museum of the National Institute for Anthropology and History in Pachuca, in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico.

He has had 17 individual and 19 group shows in Mexico and abroad. As an editor and photographer he has published more than 40 books on the subjects of art and photography. In addition, he has curated photo exhibitions at the Modern Art Museum, Franz Mayer Museum, the Museum of the Fine Arts Palace in Mexico City and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Monterrey.
