Blood

by photographer Diego Levy
2003 FiftyCrows PhotoFund Finalist

Diego Levy began his coverage of urban violence in Latin America in 2000, independently following police cases in Buenos Aires with a team of local news reporters. He has since traveled to Rio de Janeiro with the same investigative lens, juxtaposing those crime scenes with photographs from Buenos Aires in his essay entitled “Blood”. Fitting to its title, Levy’s project displays gruesome, brutal images of street violence with a visual brusqueness that is often shocking. He is interested in portraying the grisly truth of this everyday rampant violence, as well as its socio-economic backdrop of unemployment, poverty, and social disparity.
