Ekpei is a Nigeria-based photographer for Agence France Presse (AFP). Formerly, he served as photography editor to The Independent and The Sunday Magazine (UK). He is also a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the National Press Photographers Association of America (NPPA), and has published a book of his work entitled 'Just As We Are', released in 1989. Ekpei was the first African recipient of the Willie Vicoy Reuter Fellowship.
