About Jean-Claude

Jean-Claude Coutausse was born in Monpazier, France in 1960. He became a freelance photorapher in 1983, publishing his work in such journals as Newsweek and National Geographic, working extensively with the French daily newspaper, Liberation. In 1990, he joined Contact Press Images. In 1992, he became the first photojournalist to document the famine in Somalia. The pictures were published on the cover on TIME magazine. He has received awards for his work, including the Villa Medicis award, AFAA, and the FotoGranPrix in Barcelona Spain.
