About Jihan

For the past nine years, Jihan Ammar has worked as a professional photojournalist and photo editor based out of such diverse locales as Cairo, Tehran, and Nicoisa, covering stories throughout Baghdad, Jerusalem, and Amman. She has worked under the auspices of esteemed newswire agencies such as AFP (Agence France-Presse), at whose Paris headquarters she currently serves as Photo Editor. Educated from Ithaca College, New York, she received her Bachelor of Science in 1992 in Mass Communications with a minor in Political Science.

Ammar's own experiences as an Arab-Muslim woman have underpinned her photographic projects. She has exhibited essays on Egyptian women for United Nations conferences in Cairo and Beijing, produced a documentary on modern women in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and represented women and healthcare in a picture essay for the NGO Save the Children.
