Abir Abdullah

About Abir

Abir Abdullah worked as a freelance photographer from 1994 to 1995 and is currently working as a staff photographer at Drik Picture Library in Bangladesh. He was recently assigned a project (Pleasure of Life) by the World Press Photo Foundation and is developing a photo essay on air pollution in the city of Dhaka.

His awards include the Asahi Shimbun medal from the International Photographic Salon of Japan in 1996, 1997 and 1999, the silver medal from the 2nd BPS international photo contest in 1998 and Bangladesh’s Shilpakala Academy grand prize in 1998. His work has been exhibited in China, India, Iran, Nepal, Japan, Pakistan, the UK and the USA. He has been published in Asiaweek, Himal (a Nepali bimonthly), NRC HANDELSBLAD (a Dutch publication) and Der Spiegal (a German magazine).
