Burma. October 2007.

Through his photo essay “Burma. October 2007.”, Frederic Sautereau provides a current perspective on the September 2007 protests in Burma. His photographs shed light on the oppression of the Burmese people, who have suffered severe punishment as a result of their protests against the sharp increase in the prices of fuel and public transportation.

The majority of Sautereau’s work surrounds the “dual notions of border and divide”, and he has done extensive photographic work depicting divided cities such as Belfast, Nicosia, Mostar, Jerusalem and Mitrovica. Between 2000 and 2003, Sautereau focused primarily on his project, “The Edges of Europe” for which he received the support from Label Paris Europe, the National Centre for the Plastic Arts, and the Hachette Foundation. In 2003 he received the Fuji Prize for a project on the wall separating Israel and the West Bank. Frederic Sautereau is also the director of Oeil Public Agency, a photo agency dedicated to promoting socially conscious photography through its collective of nine photographers.
